twin: a performance + drawing [2013]

twin: a collaborative performance and drawing by ruby onyinyechi amanze and Wura-Natasha Ogunji [http://wuraogunji.com/home.html], october 26th, 2013, 11:26am - 3pm [3:34] at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, Brooklyn, NY [MoCADA http://mocada.org/2013/07/03/six-draughtsmen/]. residue and documentation of the performance is on view at MoCADA through April 2014 as part of the Six Draughtsman exhibition.

amanze : i think performance, similar to paper, is in a lot of ways the most ephemeral or tangibly impermanent of mediums. are your performances drawings and your drawings performances?

ogunji : performance and drawing are both about mark-making for me.  i'm interested in how we archive our presence as brown and black people in the world, in how our lives are remembered or noted. drawing offers a counter-story, as does performance. it says, ‘this body has knowledge, this body leaves a trace and that trace will be here regardless of what you see or say’.  the drawing exists, so i exist.
